Pasture Raised Pork
Did you know that pigs that are outside in the fresh grass and fresh air have meat that is red in color? Our Idaho Pasture Pigs are a unique breed of the original Duroc, old Berkshire, and Kunekune. Idaho Pasture Pigs are one of the only true GRAZING breeds! These pigs mature in about 10 months. Besides grazing on our pasture of clover and grass during the summer and alfalfa hay during the winter and only 2 pounds of mostly minerals each day (2lbs-4 weeks prior to processing), they also get wonderful barley and pea fodder each day, year around. Fodder improves gut function, has a higher crude protein, and gives the meat a higher quality with better texture...and they LOVE it! They are an incredibly friendly breed and we have both ginger and tri-colored IPPs at Prairie Junction Farms. Check out our Facebook page for more information about this amazing breed.
